Hajjat Aphwa was awarded by the British Council as its Climate Ambassador and an International Climate Champion-handling Global Agenda on Climate Change. She has started National Greening Fridays which have spread from mosques to institutions of learning and to Uganda Prisons, introduced a faith based approach to sensitize on environment. At community level, Hajjat Aphwa formed the Gomba Women Environment and Development Group, working with the rural woman to fight effects of Climate Change, and to improve the entire family livelihood through energy and money saving methods like cooking with briquettes instead of firewood. With the support of Alliance of Religions and Conservation(ARC) www.arcworld.org, Several women have embraced environment protection to create businesses in planting of mainly fruit seedilings, making of local ovens, making of brquettes and growing of fruit trees and sell fruits to markets within the community and to fruit making factories.
