green-friday

Greenings Fridays is a unique concept and have been marked annually for three years since the launch in 2010 at Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) by His eminence the Mufti of Uganda, in the company of the British Council Director and the National Forestry Authority Executive Director. Marked every second Friday of the Holy month of Ramadhan. The Sermon in the Mosques is about Islam and Environment, urging all to adhere to what the Quran and the Hadiths say about the environment. After prayers, actual planting of trees and distribution of seedlings takes place. This has resulted in changes in the mindset and has seen over 50,000 trees planted. Greening Fridays have spread to institutions of learning like Makerere University Business school(MUBS), Kampala University as well as Uganda Prisons. In 2013 Greening Fridays are set to roll out to 10 other districts in Uganda and will eventually cover the whole country
